Urgent concussion care to take the proper steps for speedy recovery
A concussion is a mild traumatic brain injury from a blow to the head or body. Labeled as mild does not mean the injury is not serious. A loss of consciousness is not required for a concussion to occur. Symptoms vary and can start immediately or days later. An injury concerning for concussion, accident or sports related, should prompt timely evaluation by a healthcare professional to guide treatment and expedite recovery. In the meantime, we recommend avoiding activities that put you at risk for another brain injury such as playing contact sports, as well as avoiding taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen, or naproxen for the first 48 hours after the injury.
*Symptoms occurring within the first 24 to 48 hours requiring immediate medical attention:
*If you are experiencing any of these symptoms call 911 or proceed to the nearest emergency department.
While most symptoms will resolve within a couple of weeks, some persist. Thou treatable they require thorough investigation and often a multidisciplinary approach.
